wireless network at school

I am looking at an inspirion 1100 for school, but i am confused  when it comes to wireless.  The school that i am attending for the next 4 years has a wireless network in place and access points all over.  My question is what do I need to make this new notebook work with out the wires.  and if i may, how do i connect it to my 3.2ghz 8300?....

    You need a wireless NIC. You can buy them in PCMCIA flavors from Dell or just about anywhere else or you can buy them as Mini PCI cards from some locations. If you go the latter, the Truemobile 1300 is easy to install and will provide compatibility with both 802.11(b) and (g) networks which are the most common. A new TM1350 is coming out soon which is supposed to have even more compatibility so you may want to wait. It wouldn't hurt to check with the school to find out what type of wireless network they have, but it is probably a (b). PCMCIA 802.11(b) cards can be purchased very cheaply.

    If it's an 802.11a network then only 802.11a cards will work NOT "B" OR "G" CARDS. But chances are it's 802.11b or 802.11g. If it's 802.11b then "G" and "B" cards will work BUT NOT "A" CARDS.If it's 802.11g then "B" and "G" cards will work BUT NOT "A" CARDS.

    The Truemobile 1300 comes in both PCMCIA and minipci configurations.

    Look on the schools website (IT area) for specs and buy accordingly.  The 1100 will only take a PC Card (PCMCIA) card, not an internal mini-pci card.
