Wireless Network Setup Problems

I have spent 'way too many hours trying to get my wireless network running between a laptop Inspiron 1705 with a Dell Draft N card and my Dimension 8400 Desktop with a Netgear NEXT WNR854T Router. Internet access works fine from either computer. Netgear shows both the IP address of the laptop and the server. I want to share my server printer and files, and have them enabled I think properly. I have backed off the router security options to the very basic open network. I guess I just don't understand what is missing. I can ping my server and router from the laptop, but I cannot ping the laptop from the server. 'Thot I could lick this myself, but evidently not.

Since the internet connection works, it must be a misconfigured firewall that is blocking local network access.   Do you have one of the security suites running on either computer?  If so, either read the documentation to figure out how to allow local network access, or temporarily disable the firewalls in these suites to prove that that is indeed the problem.

Steve - Many thanks - you saved the day! I removed Norton from my server, but forgot about PC-cillin on the remote. Incredible how much frustration this has caused. I disable that firewall and all seems better. Thanks again!
