How is the 8250 connected to the router (wired or wireless)?  Does both the laptop and the 8250 have internet access?  If so, then both computers have an IP address and you already have a wireless network set up.  There is no reason to be running the wireless network setup wizard.  On the 8250 you have to enable File and Printer Sharing, designate the printer as a shared printer, disable the Windows firewall in Windows XP SP1, and configure any third party firewalls to allow local network access.  If the laptop is also running Windows XP, it should automatically add the printer to the list of printers in the Printers folder.

Just wanted to answer the first part..

- Yes - It is unchecked on exception tab in window firewall
- my network place - BLANK

Whatever or not it makes a difference - View network connection.. Red X mark is on Local Area Connection. 1394 Connection and Wireless Network Connection is also listed but no red X mark..

There is nothing that is showing up on the laptop that I can see is from our PC.

Before I get to the second part - Let's see if there is any answer on the first part of my reply.

The only thing that work is surfing the net that is communicating with the wireless router on laptop.

I wonder if I disable something in "Services" on my PC... I either manual or disable some of them to make my PC performance better.. What should I ensure they are turn back on automatic for between laptop/PC if important. I did this while back then and might need to turn something back on.. I did review this evening and turn some back on that might answer this but no luck so far..

On the laptop running SP2, you may need to make sure that File and Printer Sharing is checked off on the exceptions tab of the Windows firewall.  From the laptop, can you see any of the shared drives or folders of the 8250 in My Network Places?  If you can, that says that file and printer sharing are working.

Note that you should not have to run the Add Printer wizard to add the printer on the laptop.  If file and printer sharing is working, then the printer should automatically show up in the printers folder on the laptop.  If you must add the printer, open the Priniter folder, click on Add Printer, click on Next, select "A Network Printer or Printer attached to another computer".  If you can't browse to the printer, you can add the printer name in the form \\computername\printername, where computername is the network name of the 8250 and printername is the name you chose to give the printer when you designated it as a shared printer on the 8250.  You do not want find the printer by its URL on the internet, because it does not have a URL on the internet.

Wireless Router is connect to PC...

Yes - Both PC and Laptop has access to internet - Cable Modem

Yes - I click share the printer and firewall isn't up and running

Laptop still cannot locate this printer..

It gave me the option of connect via internet or network but I don't know the HTTP address (URL) to connect to my PC to access printer - Third option in add printer wizard on laptop. First one is Browse for a printer, second one is connect to this printer (printer not connect to this laptop) and third one is connect to a printer on the internet or on a home or office network i.e. http//etc..

The only thing pop up on the laptop - microsoft window network when I click browse for printer.. My printer is Espon Stylus CX5400

I am using Dlink-624 Wireless between my HP laptop and Dell 8250

The only difference is my PC is SP1 and the laptop is SP2 - Window XP Home Edition..

Thank you,

William

Clarification on View network connection listing is from Laptop

Services - only on my PC that I tinker around but didn't do anything to the laptop as it has been left as it is when we got it. There has been no changes to the laptop that I did (play around to make things better) as it is only two days old..

File and printer sharing should be checked (not unchecked) on the Exceptions tab of the Windows Firewall.  The 1394 connection is your firewall connection, not normally used for networking, and certainly not used for networking in your case.  If you messed with settings in the services menu, I can't help you.  That is a dangerous place to be messing around.  Do you have any third party firewalls (like Zone Alarm, Norton Internet Security, McAfee Security Center, all of which contain firewalls) running on your computer.  If so, either disable them temporarily until you get this problem solved, or read the users manual to find out how to configure the firewalls in these applications to allow local network access.

Hello

I am back and was on business trip for the past couple of days... I would like to update you.. I misunderstood about the checkmark as I thought it need to be unchecked so both of them has check on... The only new thing (putting a check on) that popped up is the word "workgroup" that show up in the printer/fax when trying to add a printer.. when I click on the workgroup - it says you need to specify a network a valid network printer name..

Should this have been simple enough to do?? The only thing we can use the wireless router is to surf the net but cannot access our pc or printer.. Am I missing something? Is there an articles that I can follow step by step in order to use laptop to communicate with wireless router to printer/pc??

There is section where I am asked - From Laptop - Can I see any of the shared drives or folder of 8250 in my network places - If so, the file/printer is working.

After I put a check mark according to the instruction in this forum - It is still blank in my network place..

Do I need to click - add a network place?
