Question

I wrestled with my wireless setups and finally found a couple of tips that may help others:   1) Your computer NAME can never contain any characters other than letters, numbers and dashes, etc. exactly the same rules as apply to naming a file on the desktop under XP. My computer's name had a date with slashes and I could not get it to show up on the network. As soon as I changed to dashes instead of slashes and rebooted the computer showed up immediately.   2) My wireless download speeds were always slow whether on my Dell, my Toshiba or whether using a Dell 1370 card or my Intel 3945ABG card. I discovered this forum and downloaded the program 'DRTCP' which allows you to adjust your XP O/S settings for fast wireless speeds regardless of the wireless card or wireless router you use. speaking of tweak programs, myself and many others have had good luck with a program called cablenut.  it also works well for those situations when your wireless speeds are falling well short of where they should be.   most likely windows has the tcp/ip window set far too conservatively.
