New PC's come with a recovery partition on the hard drive that will restore it to the original factory conditon, without discs.  However, from what I read on this forum, all new PC's come with both the operation system DVD and the disc for the drivers and utilities.

The transfer is OK but be aware that most programs will require installation, not just transferred to the new PC.  As primarily all you will be transferring is user data, if you just copy that to discs or a USB "memory key" and use that to transfer it's just as easy and save the cost of the special transfer cable.

As Fireberd suggests, you *shouldn't* need to ask for the OS disc.  It should be supplied with the system - along with a Media Direct CD, a 'Drivers & Utilities' CD, and discs for various pre-installed programs - i.e. Microsoft Works, Roxio Creator, McAfee Internet Security etc.

I say *shouldn't", because I've read threads/posts on the forums, in which members have stated they didn't get discs with their system :emotion-3:

That's a (n inexcusable IMO) lapse on Dell's part!  But thankfully, 'backup' discs can be requested.

You should only need the discs for 'just in case' scenarios though - i.e. the hard drive failing.

Using the restore option, is by far the quickest/easiest way to start afresh :emotion-5:
