390, won't accept Bios from A11 To A14?

Gentlemen, I am trying to update the BIOS from A11 to A14 as I want to install Windows 7x64 under UEFI and in a related post, Dr. Yip said that the 390 was a bit "flaky" with earlier Bios so to make sure to update to A14. I installed Win7 in legacy BIOS to run the only Bios update I see on the downloads page for this model and have downloaded it twice and run it several times. The installation always fails after reboot with the the installation progress box at zero %. Several other poster's in another thread had the same issue, with one guy saying that none of the 40 390's in his office would take the update. Unless there's something I'm missing, it looks like I'll be forced to keep the A11 BIOS for my UEFI installation. Does the fact that I have not activated the Windows installation I'm using to run the BIOS update have anything to do with it? It's status is still just as a trial installation, not "Genuine" as it would be after activation. Any thoughts from those more well-versed in such matters? Thank you for your kind attention! Grant

the last 2 posters sadly did not tell how they did the burn.,

the RTC 3.3v coin call is Due after 8 long years. it is NO GOOD, replace that first. ok or test it, below 2.9v id bad.  how did you burn, for sure DOS is best if F12 is missing,(burn BIOS)

then after the burn, you reset BIOS,

power off the PC, pull  the AC line cable plug.

push power button for 5 -10 seconds release button (fans spin for 1second discharging all CAP.'s)

now AC cable power back , push button hear fans. run and stay run.

then use the F2 key (IRRC) then select Set BIOS defaults.

then see if HDD shows up on boot order it must and set it to 1st to boot. order.

now cold boot it again.

the BIOS hot keys must work for sure  F2 and if present F12 key, (F12 is boot on the fly key and BIOS burn key)

the text files (i call them) is under link Important  information

here is one on the 390-

Note: Please note that if the A01 or before A01 BIOS is currently installed on your system, you must first update to A02 BIOS and then flash to the latest A-Rev BIOS.
01,2,3,5,7,9,10,11,14

there is no warning on 11 or 14,

there they all from main page. so you are using wrong method.

i see no , anti jump rule at 11. so you are doing it all wrong is my guess.

remove all USB devices,? not keyboard.

then unplug dvd drive and hdd or ssd drive data cables?  (bad drives are not good to have connected now)

make sure the PC has no GPU card if you think it has problem (like lint packed fans or overheating)>>means use iGPU VGA port.

clean CPU fan so it cant overheat (and HS fins)

then use F12 key. to burn version  a14, just that if flash update present here.

my dells do this.  flash file located on 1 USB stick .  and then F12 , update to A14 , most safe way.

Bootmenu&burn

power on and hammer F12 see above. (this is what we do on all dell first, make sure it is there!)

the F12 way needs not OS at all, so there for OS corruption can not HAPPEN.

if missing  run DDDP or freedos flash method.(ask for that)

doing my ways above avoids bricking good PCs as millions have now(google it and cry)

My shop I use UPS AC power center device. for even more  success.

the text files at dell (poor) show the rules, sadly read them all may say this,  you must upgrade to Ax first.

this should be at that top of every dell BIOS page for any PC but is not. (where applicable)

sadly.  (use the F12 hot key to load BIOS if present, F12 update is the most safe way of all to upgrade BIOS.

next best is Freedos or DELLS DDDP way, (dell dos)

some PCs have 20 versions, for sure UEFI buggy messy PCs,  and worse no regression paths allowed. now.

flashing with buggy or infected windows, is well, (really not too bright, in nice words)

a14 must be buggy,?  (in this world anything is possible)

there is no a12 or 13 so A11 is last one,

try  burning A11 again,  that is  my best answer and are you using F12 way?

then DO A14, next. F12 way.

BIOS flashing is always risky for sure with power surge AC or bump or AC power loss.

tell the helper which of 4 or 5 methods you used. (hint they  are not EQUAL in RISK)

1: F12

2: DDDP

3 Feedos

4: omg not windows way  and what version, 7?

5;  the dell pages that show Linux way, yes, do that.   some do.

I am very sorry if you  have problems with BIOS,  I do know  how painful that can be,  good luck!
