7080 SFF valid disk configurations

OptiPlex 7080 Small Form Factor

OptiPlex 7080 Small Form Factor

Hi Folks,

According to the 7080 SFF Setup Manual Storage page, although there are two M.2 2280 sockets on the motherboard, using both of them, let alone both in conjunction with another SSD or hard drive, is not a listed configuration. This seemed very odd to me. It almost seemed as if using the M.2 socket would eliminate the use of one or more of the SATA channels.

I asked our hardware guy at work and he suggested it might be a limitation of the CPU. If that's so, could I install a different CPU? When I bought this (used), I hoped to be able to put more storage in it. I figured the power supply could handle 2 M.2 2280s and an additional SSD (or even) a hard drive.

Can anyone confirm and explain the limitations, or perhaps give me an alternate, unofficial recommendation for a 3 drive setup? I could try it w/ 2 M.2 2280s, but if that would cause some problems, that seemed like a tricky experiment. Any experience of ideas gratefully accepted!

Thanks!

John

I think that is probably an error in 7080 SFF manual

the 7080 MT manual says two M.2 ssd is supported

the MT and SFF use same bios.

both MT and SFF board have two M.2 ssd slots.
