755 MT Win10 pro, .net framework problem
I installed Photo Explosion 4.0. It wanted .net framework downloaded to work properly. I don't remember the # that preceded .net, if it was 3 or 4.
If my PC is in sleep mode, it turns on by itself, always in the midde of the night with a blank screen. I can hit any button and I get the sign on screen. This problem started occurring after downloading the .net framework.
If I turn the PC off, it stays that way.
I checked BIOS. It's still the same - no auto on times, it's turned off. I double checked Power Management settings in Windows - nothing new.
Do I have to delete Photo Explosion 4.0 to remove the problem or what else is there? CMOS battery was recently replaced.

I would start by uninstalling the photo program to see if it helps. If not, go after the .net stuff to update or reinstall that.
Any virus scanner running? How about remnants of adobe's software that might be jealous?

Hi @donm4599x,
Thanks for replying.
I'm not sure how I'd go about the .net stuff other than to use Dell Support Assist. It doesn't show in the program list so I can't delete it.
Photo Explosion does show in the program list so I'll probably try deleting it. For many things it's difficult to use; especially compared to software I can't use anymore.
Oh yah, of course I have antivirus. It wasn't doing a system scan during but does check if I download anything.
No adobe being jealous.

Don't delete it ... use uninstall, that way it might clean up any other rubbish it loaded when you installed it. (if you're lucky)
If you're looking for the .net stuff, try settings/update and security/windows update/view update history. See if it shows up there, with the date you installed it. On the same page, there is also a link to uninstall updates, so you can see it it's listed in that section too.
In win 10, it seems things like .net is no longer shown under the normal programs listings ... Heh, they call programs "Apps" now. I suppose it's just more hipster cell phone speak for a better windows 10 "experience"
I liked a program called Photo Studio. It came on the CD with an old cannon scanner. When I looked for it, there is no free version, so I just fire up the old XP machine to edit photos on those rare occasions.

I can't edit posts with firefox v69
change first word can to can not.
dang.
What really matters is when it self turns on you dont know what mode the ACPI , power state it is in
S0 to 5.
as listed at MS dot com.
G3 mode is PC turned off and only BIOS can turn it on, or the power button sure.
wild guess is you are in 5 mode, and lots of things can wakeup S5 mode. (huge list of things)
the power LED on you PC tells you if the PC is in sleep mode. Green /amber or blinking per the manual.
here is my test.(cmd. admin)
C:\WINDOWS\system32> powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
HID Keyboard Device
Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller #3
HID Keyboard Device (003)
HID-compliant mouse
now and last , A PC can setup (you do) Task scheduler (TS) to end sleep, (not hibernate)
as seen here.
what does that mean?, it means make sure that is disabled, in the TS. if found.
or hog tie the cat.

it is listed under Microsoft.
type Frame in the search box in programs listing.
application programs (apps for short) and listed under programs, not under other" turn windows system features on or off) use the search box, type .net or frame.
the program app you run is old and i can not find support on it nor what dot net it needs,
but for sure get the .net at only microsoft, and fresh from there, and never off some CD.

windows 10 on old iron
and with old photo shop. apps.
first off the control panel under windows program;'s you just click the top right box (search) type FRAME
bingo, all Net frames shown. Microsoft .net framework 1.1 on mine.
my guess is , you have some install media with very old and not allowed now, old netframes.
my wild guess #2 is the installer is CD??????????? NOT FROM TORRENTS right?
the cure is go microsoft.com get the newest DOT NET and load it. (after installing or before , toss coin !!!!)
Photo Explosion? ouch,. v4 ?? $14 used on amazon. what deal.(and 35% hate it)
I must now warn you that some apps this old checks the version of dot net and if it does not recognize it , it then fails, some APPS will not like newer fully working DOT NET> oK> and varies by VERSION of APP.
here they all are , have fun finding one that works, 4.8 is first. to try , click RUNTIME.

now this answered, it turns on by itself, why?
the OS is not running when turned fully off, so it can be that app or windows or anything like that.
The BIOS is the only thing a turned off PC can turn on by itself , and only it, (firmware did it)
if you removed the HDD (pull the data cable) see if it turns on now>?? if yes, by self that is BIOS doing that.!
in the clock timer page of BIOS, for same. (turn that off and for sure make sure time and date are NOT WRONG)
now if the PC is in sleep mode, then gee even a cat bumping the mouse or open window, with curtains hitting the mouse can and will wake up sleep.
one can also turn off wake on USB and only set the power button to only let it cause SLEEP, your call,
if you turn off sleep mode, totally in CP + power setting then that ends that problem.
The power setting on all PCs are complex. here is my photo of that. complexity, (not counting BIOS)
Power modes S0 to S5
the PC drivers if wrong, and not for W10,64bit, then that too can mess up sleep modes, and or hiberate modes.
to prove that is easy, unplug the HDD, if still fails, it is NOT THE OS fault nor any drivers bad.
learn to do fault isolation it is not hard, unplug things.

Hi @savvy2,
Thanks for answering and holy cow, quite the extensive answers.
I purposely bought Photo Explosion 4.0, to run the oldest version possible, because 5.0, "with 2000 new features," is way beyond what I need or will ever use. 4.0 is that way some too. Yet it doesn't have auto enhancing features. Brand new off of eBay for $14. The .net 2 or 3 was a download. I'm not sure how old is old to you software wise.
Do I then delete the. net that I think is turning on my PC, or do I just download the latest version?
"As seen here" link doesn't work.
The reviews were better on the older versions of Photo Explosion. And in reviews for the newer versions, many mentioned liking older versions better.

Hi again @savvy2,
I went to Control Panel like you said and typed "frame" in the search bar - nothing. I went to the C drive which has the OS - plenty found.
Do I simply delete the files with 2.0 & 3.5 framework or do I just download 4.8? I don't want to just delete the aforementioned without consulting to find I just screwed something up.
Please see attached photo. All framework files downloaded on 10/7 contain the 2.0 & 3.5 .net framework.
4.0 is the newest version I currently have.
If somebody else answers, that's fine too.
Thanks, bradthetechnut

Hi @donm4599x,
I was just reviewing your post above. "Uninstall" is what I meant. I just often use the word "delete" instead.
14 yrs. ago, I had a Lexmark printer-scanner that came with photo software. Easy to use and had what I wanted. Well, the printer is long gone so I can't use the software. Then I learned while browsing that Photo Explosion was included with some Lexmark printers. So I thought I would have some luck with it - nope.

Dotnet should not need to be removed.
OLDER programs need DOTNET 2.0 and 3.5 which is added from CONTROL PANEL Remove/Add features to windows.
Must be ONLINE to put this.
You should then download the DOTNET 4.7.2 offline installer
And run that
Then run the 10 update troubleshooter.
.NET is Never a problem.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4054530/microsoft-net-framework-4-7-2-offline-installer-for-windows
Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2 (Offline Installer) supports the following operating systems:

@bradthetechnut, I have several other programs that came bundled with various periperhals which won't even install on win 10, even using the original CDs. I guess that's a good thing if it wouldn't run anyway.
Photostudio was one of them, and it's fairly expensive now, with no free version. Another reason to keep an ancient machine like my 20 year old XP box
As speedstep says, .net is usually not a problem other than it has to be updated more often than I change my underwear. It's like a whining baby, but it must be necessary. I wonder if linux uses it too?

Programs and Features doesn't list any .net framework. "Remove/add features" yields nothing. "Remove" leads to Programs and Features.
There's uninstall instructions on the MS site. For Windows 10, it directs to Programs and Features.
I followed XP directions to see what I would get. Right click Start menu, click Run, type "installer" in open box... The list didn't show any .net.
I thought there has to be a way of uninstalling .net 2 & 3.5. For me, it is a problem since it turns on my computer from sleep. I already uninstalled Photo Explosion and the problem still exists. It wasn't until Photo Explosion 4.0 that I needed 2 & 3.5 .net framework.
Lesson learned - Before installing Photo Explosion, or at least before downloading .net, I should've created a Restore Point.
I'll still download .net 4.7.2 later this week. Gotta have more data on phone to run WiFi hotspot to put computer online.
Dotnet framework files can't be deleted or uninstalled.
Win10 update troubleshooter troubleshoots just that - Win10 updates.
