Adding More Storage to Optiplex 3080 Micro
Hello everyone, this is my first time here in search of some help when selecting a second storage device to my Dell Optiplex 3080 Micro. 2021
I bought this a month or two ago as a refurbished device and am generally pleased with it. However the 1TB NVMe drive is all but full now that I have added some of my photos.
The installed drive is a Micron 2300 NVMe 1024GB SSD
The ram is SK Hynix 16GB 2Rx8 PC4 3200AA SE1 11
I am waiting for the 2.5" Blue Caddy Tray to arrive so that I can install a suitable 2TB drive in to it.
My intial thoughts are to install an internal drive to maximise speed when scanning and editing photos instead of relying on the Seagate 2TB USB3 portable drive I am currently using.
I am considering buying something like the Samsung SSD 870 EVO 2TB Form Factor 2.5" SATA or perhaps another brand eg Crucial MX500 or Kingston KC600
My question is that I am a little confused by the specification of storage shown on the Dell website as it does not list that type as an option, only a 2.5" 5400 rpm HDD upto 2 TB. Hoever if I search on some UK suppliers websites e.g. https://www.mrmemory.co.uk/memory-ram-upgrades/dell/optiplex/3080-micro and enter the machine as Optiplex 3080 Micro then I can see the above mentioned SATA SSD as being suitable for it.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
Once I have the extra storage up and running (leaving the NVMe drive untouched with all the programs on it but moving the photos to the new drive) I may well replace the memory wtih a matched pair of 16GB DDR4 PC4-25600 3200MHz 260-pin SODIMM from Crucial.
Thanks once again in anticipation.

Dell specifications are for tested and validated products that were available and designed for sale with the systems. For components that meet standard specifications, as the market progress, the capacity can be larger than Dell tested specifications.
Crucial has been known for having very good Dell compatible memory and storage. Their compatibility tool indicates up to 4TB of storage for either M.2 or SATA SSD. They provides full lifetime warranty support and accepting return for product with issue.
With that confirmation, you can upgrade up to 4TB SATA SSD of your choice for now and knowing that you can increase the M.2 NVMe later if you want.
