BIOS password Reset in Optiplex 5000 solution explained

If you need to reset the BIOS password in an Optiplex 5000 desktop, the solution is as follows

Optiplex 5000 systems do not have a jumper on the motherboard so you need to contact Dell support.

They will ask you to take a photo or Screenshot of the screen showing the Incorrect Password error.

They will also ask you to take a photo of the desktop that shows the Service Tag and a piece of paper with the current date and the Service Tag and the Case number written on it. The case number would have been emailed to you during the call.

This proves that you own the system.

Once ownership is established the support person emails you a master password that you can use to unlock the BIOS.

Type the master password in being very careful to use the correct case and press CTRL + ENTER instead of clicking OK.

Remain on the line and confirm the password was successfully reset.
