dell optiplex 790 intel HD graphics not working
mI have a dell optiplex 790 had it for half a year but I haven't messed with it In a while till last night. I found a 20yo graphics card and put it into the machine. It works!!!, but it's very limited since its age .I take it out of the machine and plug my VGA to the intagrated graphics but the computer give me a error (2,4) with two numbers glowing. I know it means graphics card failure but on intagrated graphics??? That's Tied up to the cpu and it still works just fine. Is there a fix for this mess?

790 has 2nd gen CPU.
7010/9010 - 3rd gen
7020/9020 - 4th gen
3010 & 3020 aren't as expandable, but sure can be cheap. But look out for dual core CPU's vs. quad.

Looks like a good price. Used as compared to refurb?
You said you're a game devoloper - even better is if it came with an I7.
RAM speeds are different between the 790 & 7010. 1,333MHz for the 790 and 1,600MHz for the 7010.
If you transfer your HDD, you'll very likely have to download chipset and graphics drivers, possibly the sound driver too. I had to when I saved my 755 HDD and put it in a backup 790. Dell Support Assist will have you do that. The 7010 is the newer version of the 790, so I don't think you'll have hardly any trouble.

Better worded from my post above: 3010/3020 - Look out for ones that have dual core CPU's instead of quad. Wasn't sure if my wording was clear.

Integrated video will not work until you physically remove the card. You cannot use both at the same time.

Try reset CMOs jumper. You said you already took the old video card out of 790. There is chance bios is still stuck thinking you have a discrete video in there.

Hi @DellUser2022,
I take it the image above is integrated graphics.
Try replacing the size 2032 CMOS battery if it hasn't been done in the last 5 years. Energizer or Duracell is suggested as Sony only lasted me 2 years. (Might've been a bad batch.) Better deals on Amazon than in store. A low battery can cause all sorts of bizarre problems.
I take it you have Win10? Check display settings in case they got screwed up.

Also as you can see it's in black and white and at 640p. It's a 20yo graphics card

No, I dont have a display port cord. I was using this hdmi to displayport and it broke from something falling on it. Could it be the ports broken? From it being shorted?

Dell led code can be red herring. In this case 24 led (blue power button) says hdd issue per manual but you seem to have no report of hdd problem. https://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_optiplex_desktop/optiplex-790_owner%27s%20manual_en-us.pdf
