Re: Is it possible to watercool the cpu on a dell optiplex 790 motherboard?

Dell bios does not let user overclock -k cpu such as i7-2600k in cpu.  Liquid cooling is usually for overclocking.

if intention of liquid cooling is for quieter fan, or using 790 case for new components,

you need power for liquid pump and radiator fan.  You could get liquid pump power off cpu fan header on Dell motherboard by using adapter (Dell 5 pin to standard 4 pin) so your pump 4 pin can plug in.

790 has small 80mm case fan and 80 mm cpu heatsink fan.  Most common radiator is 120 mm with matching size fan. Radiator typically mounted at back exhaust.  There are 80 mm radiator you can look into.

FCLGA1155 is too old and slow.

so its possible but pointless

If intention is to have better air flow in case due to presence of one 80 mm rear exhaust fan, no front intake fan, presence of cpu heatsink fan and gpu fan, you can consider adding a custom front intake fan and somehow mount it on front chassis grill.  To power that fan you need to upgrade psu because stock psu has no 4 pin molex power connector, nor does motherboard have additional 3 pin fan header.
use blower type gpu will also help chassis ambient temperature.

Im just worried as of having one fan and the gpu fan. Maybe watercooling can calm to cpu so that the gpu fan and the main fan dont have to worry?
