Unfortunately, the i7-3770K is the best processor that your motherboard can take. (Overclocking not supported on the motherboard) It is a Quad-Core, 8 Thread processor.  It is possible to do some gaming with it, but nothing hardcore with maximum quality graphics.  It's up to you whether you want to upgrade to the i7-3770K, although there may not be much of a performance difference. The i7-3770 has a base clock of 3.4GHz, while the K variant has a base clock of 3.5 GHz. They both can turbo up to 3.9 GHz.

There is no 6 or 8 core cpu for ivy bridge or sandy bridge.  Intel core cpu from 2nd up to 7th gen does not offer more than 4 core (only old 1st gen cpu for x58 chipset has 6 core such as 980).  Intel 8th gen and newer cpu begins to offer 6 core.

If budget allows, look into getting a newer Optiplex, XPS, or G5 mini tower.

I can't speak to the A01 revision to the 0M9KCM MoBo. I know that the A00 does not properly enable Hyper-threading. The A02 does.

This can be verified in Device Manager under Processors  there will be eight (8) if Hyper-Threading is properly enabled. On my A00 board Turning Hyperthreading on in BIOS reduces my cores to two (2) and total threads to four (4)

PassMark CPU shows 5000+ when four cores, 3000+ when not working correctly and 6000+ when it does.

It is still better with four cores than an i5-3550 [5058] i7-3770 [5413] & [5353] (Four threads total on the A00)

Of course with eight threads [6703]. (on the A02)
