According to Dell specs the 5070 has a "combo" jack. Usually that means it can either be a headphone jack or microphone jack depending on what is connected. This type usually does not work with a "TRRS" plug like is used in an iPhone and other similar devices. The TRRS plug needs a splitter to separate the headset and microphone to two TRS (standard stereo) plugs. Then the mic can be used.
Here is an example of a splitter adapter

the PC only has this combo port (related to audio). so the splitter jacks (pink and grteen) have no slots to enter in.

From what I see in the Dell documentation the "combo" jack can either be a Headphone or Microphone but not both. If this is the case you can't have them both work at the same time.

Ty for answer.
Can you please direct me to Dell documentation that mentions it?
In Optiplex 507 Visual guide it says the port is: Headset / Universal Audio Jack Connector:

What I looked at is basically what you have. It doesn't say what type it is. My Dell Inspiron 5577 gaming laptop audio jack has the same name and it can be either a headphone out jack or a microphone in jack but not both at the same time.

I had the same issue on my Precision 3630.
You have to use the MaxxAudio Pro software the comes installed with Dells. Search for it in the start menu. Once launched, click on the first box (head side view with the headphones at the top-left of the window), then on the bottom middle, below the equalizer, where it says "Select Output Device" make sure to select "Headset".
When you do that, the image on the third box will change from the desktop mic to the headset with the mic and the microphone should be enabled now.
You should be able to test the sound levels and adjust the volume in that third box.
You can also enable the little window that pops up when you plug headphones in.
Hope this works for you.

BorisTP has the correct answer. Just solved this problem using this solution on my Optiplex 5070. You have to make sure your drivers are set to Realtek Audio and not High Definition Audio Device, just as an FYI.

Hi, I decided to ask DELL forum... there are dozens of threads related to "mic jack - unplugged" issue in many Optiplexes, including 5070. I see that problems were on W10 and so I have it on W11. Fully updated from MS and DELL.
Just received 2GB update from DELL COMMAND...
I see that many people confirm that there is a combo jack on front and one on the back of the machine...
In my case I have 2 - one out and one in (mic). Nothing in the back... I tried everything possible and impossible.
Even tried DELL driver packs... no luck.
May be somebody in year 2025 :) have a resolution for the Optiplex Mic Jack on front panel with an existing OUT (headphone symbol near it).
Will really appreciate.
Thank you.
