I have recently bought a Pentium 4 560 and installed it into my Optiplex 210L. According to the CPU specs (https://ark.intel.com/products/27472/Intel-Pentium-4-Processor-560560J-supporting-HT-Technology-1M-Cache-3_60-GHz-800-MHz-FSB), it has an 800 MHz bus speed and a 1MB cache L2. I looked up the specs for the Optiplex 210L (https://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/optix/en/spec_optix_210l_en.pdf) and it says it supports 800 MHz CPUs with 1MB cache L2. I bought and installed the processor and turned on the computer. It immediately said that the processor is not supported; system halted. I went online and searched for CPU compatibility. Most forums said that the 210L was compatible with all Pentium 4 processors. I can not figure out why it isn't working. The BIOS is currently at A02 and I have installed all the updates except the BIOS from the Dell Website. I did install the chipset updates. It will not allow me to download the BIOS update because it is not digitally certified. I would really appreciate some help.
There is nothing likely wrong with your processor. It would work fine in an Optiplex GX620 with Bios A11 for example.
Pentium D 900 series up to 960 works fine in GX620 Mini Tower with 305W power supply. The reason for wanting a Pentium D 915 or better is that you can run 64 bit windows 10 with that cpu.
