Sounds like it is bad. Testing alone is the best test and it failed. Go to Crucial to get guaranteed memory. Try and return the bad chip.

Yes, that is what I figured too. Just wanted to make sure I did not miss anything.

In a scenario like that, where the same part number won't even work alone in a working system, then yes, odds are that the new memory module is defective and needs to be exchanged.

Was is defective memory? , did they change it and did it work with the new 8gb one?
