Optiplex SFF(mini tower) graphics card?

I just ordered a mini tower, saw no upgrade options for a separate video card, so am guessing that this is a no-go?  But wanted to ask "you", just to be sure.

All of the current mini-towers have a 180 watt power supply and pci-e 3.0 x2 expansion slots.  For a higher resolution than HD(1920x1080) monitor, I thought that something other than the integrated intel 630 graphics might be needed?

The handbook listed a few Radeon models (R5 and R7s) as options but did not state whether one of these could be added without changing the power supply.

So, can any video card be added, that would be an improvement over the integrated 630, to a mini tower without having to change out the power supply?

thanks

41W is even OK.

In addition to the 25-30W Nvidia 1030 and Quadro P400, this is to report that a 41W Nvidia Quadro K600 (40W) and K620 (41W) both work fine, in an office environment.

No errors in 5 months of teacher/zoom use.

I have not tried 50 or 75W cards nor do I advocate that, or intend to higher power cards.

Thanks

I've got an MSI NVIDIA GeForce GT 710 2GB low profile video card that I've been using in an old Dell inspiron 660s SFF, with a 220 watt power supply, and will be getting a 5050 SFF with a 180 watt power supply.

Can I use this card in the 5050 SFF, and will it make a significant difference vs the onboard video, or will the power supply be too small?

If the power supply is inadequate, would it be possible to swap power supplies from the two PCs?

Thanks in advance!

GT 710 gddr3 such as this one from msi is slower than integrated Intel HD630 graphics of 5050 cpu (intel 7th gen)

GT710 gddr5 is a better card.

You need to upgrade 180w psu to 250w for GT710.

Load Wattage: 197 W
Recommended PSU Wattage: 247 W

Dell offers 260 psu oem c/w this model.   Power Supply 260W 52CKC H7X3F 8X63N 3YNRJ AC260EBM-00 H260EBM-00 B260EBM-00 L260EBM-00

Hi @redxps630,

Could you please double check the wattage for the GT 710 GDDR5?  All I've been able to pull up is 19w, which a 180w PSU is sufficient for.

Also some options from the 5050 spec sheet:

Without showing the card wattage, I'm unable to agree with the PSU calculation.  Something else we both know is that even for a 30w GT 1030, mfr. recommends 300w PSU.  Yet, according to Dell specs, a 275w PSU can power a 75w card.

Check out some screengrabs:

R5 430 is one of Dell's suggested cards, though I can't recommend on a 180w PSU.

This is a somewhat older thread and speedstep hasn't been on the forum since mid-Sept. 2022.

Best bet is to repost in the Vostro forum with more specifics, like what equipment you wanted to add.

May I ask where to find a replacement fan for a Rx550 R9J9P?
