R730 XD / 11th disk & Fan Speed

Hi everyone

I have a Dell R730xd in my HomeLab.

When I have ten disks in my server the fans are at 15%.

If I put an 11th disk, the fans suddenly increase by 10%. (I tried with ten different disks, in different slots and nothing change).

How can I reduce the noise?

you probably cant. remember, the fans are there to pull and push air into and out of the system. The speed of the fans is determined by an algorithm that takes the system load into consideration. you added more hardware (which generates a bit more heat) and the algorithm dictates the speed of the fans should increase by 10%

Is the new disk which you installed is a Dell drive? It is expected to have increased fan speed when you add more component to the server to maintain sufficient cooling to the server.
