T410 2nd Power Supply causing higher chassis fan speed
My T410 has 1 CPU and 2 power supplies. With only one power supply plugged into power, the chassis fan is quiet, but when I plug-in the second power supply, the chassis fan speeds up. Any ideas on what would cause this behavior?
Thanks
Jerry

Here's an update. It was not the chassis fan that was running fast as I first suspected It was actually the power supply fan. System Diagnostics showed that one of the power supplies was throwing errors. I pulled the suspect power supply and re-ran the System Diagnostics. No errors. THe suspect power supply also will not power the server. I should have realized that obvious symptom before postuing this question. So, it turns out the whole problem is a bad power supply. Interesting side note. The green light on the bad PS is on.

Hi @KD4XR,
Originally, the server is ordered with 2 power supplies? Can you check if both power supplies contain same firmware? Are both power supplies having similar DPN#?
When you use 2 power supplies, did you do cold boot the server to check the issue?

Hi, firstly please perform a power drain. Downtime is required in order to complete this operation as follows:
2- remove both power supply cables
3- press and hold the power button for 30 seconds
4- connect back the power cables and then power ON the server
5- get into BIOS, select iDrac settings, go to system logs and clear all the previous logs

My server does not have iDRAC and there is no DRM repository for the T410 so I am not able to create a bootable platform ISO for updating the firmware. I am on the latest MB firmware. So how do I go about updating the firmware without iDRAC?
Also, I realized, after removing the side panel, that it is the PS fan that is running fast and not the chassis fan as I first thought.

Hello Jerry,
I do not find that these power supplies have firmware updates.
As you found out that the issue followed the PSU I would recommend replacing the PSU.
DPN# 0G686J (Contact Sales and ask for the Spare Parts department for a quote. This is a Spare Part Number that we use in Service Repair parts.)
You indicated the system board firmware is up to date. I just want to check you have these versions:
Dell Server BIOS PowerEdge T410 Version 1.14.0
https://dell.to/406Xtan
Dell Lifecycle Controller v1.7.5
https://dell.to/3RoX6Ex
Updates can be applied at the desktop using the Windows .exe files.

Yes, my server has "Dell Server BIOS PowerEdge T410 Version 1.14.0" but it does not have "Dell Lifecycle Controller". Pressing F10 on my server opens "System Services".
I intended on using this server as a home NAS server and wanted to rescue it from going to salvage. I'm beginning to think it is just too complicated for what I need. I can't afford to buy MS Server and without that OS I can't even run any of the recommended and critical updates.
