Daniel_123,
Upon further research I determained that the Sound Cap option sin't supported on tower systems, hence it's removal from the latest iDrac.
Hope this helps.

Daniel_123,
I am researching the issue further, but to me it appears it isn't supported on the T440, as I am only showing it supported on the 640, 740/XD, and 940 series.

Hi,
now when i look at the documentation it sure looks like that, but the sound cap option is available in the idrac settings, so it must be a gui bug that the option is seen if it shouldn't be available.

Hi,
Just to double confirm that you have iDRAC and BIOS in up to date versions right?
Could you check in BIOS, if the Sound cap can be toggled on/off from there?
I don't think Tower server have capability to have sound cap option, but I'll have to confirm that with engineering. Meanwhile do feedback to us if BIOS has the sound cap option.

Hi,
and off course when i posted my last reply i found the settings, it's under the Idrac setting in the Bios, under the thermal Profile.
i can confirm that there is no sound cap there
all i have is Default thermal profile
Maximum Performance
Minimum Power

Hi,
i'm running BIOS Version 2.6.3 and iDRAC Firmware Version 4.10.10.10.
Where in the bios do i find the setting for the fans?
if it's under the system profile settings then i only have:
Performance per watt (DAPC)
Performance per watt (OS)
Performance
Workstation Performance
Custom.
But these settings does not reflect what i have enabled in Idrac, right now i have enabled the Default thermal profilen in Idrac, but in the bios the Performance per watt (DAPC) is selected.
So do i have to look elsewhere?
Also as a personal note, the sound cap should exist for tower servers since there is a higher chance that tower servers will be used in a office environment than rack mounted servers, usually the rack mounted servers is stuck in a separate room, but the tower server is stuck under a desk.
But if the sound cap is not available for the T440 server because it's a lower tier, then i can understand that.

Hi,
I agree on your point. Can I confirm with you that, the sound cap option is not available in iDRAC settings? Or there is but occurred error RAC0618 if you tried to set it? Please ignore the BIOS settings on sound cap, I was reading the whitepapers wrong.

Hi,
ok
Then all that's left is to report to the dev team that there is a gui bug in the latest version of web version of Idrac

This is a real issue for SME organisations who do not have a dedicated computer room / sound proof location in their office to place a T440, rather the SME they place it under a desk or some other out of the way location where the noise does not impact staff working.
I have a client who purchased 13 x T440 in late 2020 as a replacement for their 7-8 year old T420 servers (which Dell provided no option to renew maintenance, these T420 servers are whisper quite) to be deployed in small offices (consisting of 145 staff all with ... you guessed it Dell laptops ... I can see the $$$ when it comes to upgrades). We expected the newer T440 to be technically more advanced than the 7 year old T420, and had expected them to be equal quite in the area of noise.
Even my old T620 sitting my study / home office is quite in comparison to one of the client's T440.
Dell, it is in your interest to consider this scenario -> a small SME has staff working in a suitable office environment, the staff generate income for the SME, who in turns buys a Dell server(s) and/or other items like laptops. Obviously Dell is a winner in this situation !! So is it really that hard to up the effort on demonstrating extra options !!
