Unable to boot server

I have a PowerEdge T610 ( )

I cannot get the system to boot up. When I plug in the power supplies they each have a green light. When I press the power the lights on both power supplies turns yellow.

I am able to access the  DRAC. When I try turning on the power there I get the same result.

There is nothing displayed on the screen, nor do the internal fans turn on, no lights on the hard drives. The LED display does not show anything. I do see 1 green light on the system board in the top left.

Not sure where I need to go from here to get the server booted up.

Please advise and thanks!

Can you check only with one PSU, If you have 2 PSU on the server? You can try with both PSU and see whether system is booting with one PSU. Can you also try with another PSU if you have.

As iDRAC is working for you, you can check Logs (SEL and POST Code) on iDRAC to check whether it have any information on failure.

Thanks, but the server does not display anything on the screen (I have tried a few monitors that I know work)

No POST, and the internal fan do not spin.

Just the one green light on the main board next to what looks like an RJ-11 slot and the scsi controlller.

Thoughts?

Thanks for replying. I checked the iDRAC SEL and POST. I can see on SEL that I do have one bad hard drive. I already knew that. The only thing in Post Code is 0x0 No Post Code.

Hello @joegast,

Welcome to the Dell Community!

Ok, so you have a NO POWER / NO POST situation. First, let's proceed with a clear flea power on your server. Please, follow this steps: How do I Reset and Drain Power of my Dell PowerEdge Server? https://dell.to/30rdZVf

Second, you should proceed with a Minimum to Post. The minimum to Post is a Troubleshooting technique we use when we have a NO POST or NO POWER situation like yours. The goal is to remove all components that are not required for POST. And try to boot the server with this minimum configuration.

If the server complete the post with this minimum configuration you just need to add components one by one until the problem appears. Otherwise, if with a minimal configuration the server is not able to complete the POST. That means one of this minimal components had a hardware problem and must be replaced.

On a T610 you only need these components to POST:

System Board
Processor with Heatsink
Single Memory in dual in-line memory module (DIMM) Socket A1
Power Supply
Power Distribution Board
Control Panel

Can you please proceed with this test and let us know the result?

Regards.

I have completed trying to boot the server with only the hardware you listed. It did not help. I did purchase a refurbished mainboard and swapped it out. Still did not help except for one change. Now the control panel screen is flashing. I'm unable to access DRAC. It's IP changed but the default username and password (root/culvin) are not working to login.

Thoughts?

Thanks for helping!

The control panel screen is controlled by the iDRAC. I'd normally assume that if the default credentials weren't allowing you in, that there was likely a pre-existing configuration. In this case though, I'd wonder if maybe the new board has a bad iDRAC? Reading your thread, it seems like this is a new symptom, so I wouldn't expect it to be the control panel itself.

If you saw no change at the minimum to POST configuration, I'd consider trying to test using what known good hardware you may have available. Just as examples, you might test with a known good power supply, processor, or memory, in order to begin to eliminate possibilities.
