I have a dell r440 and I installed 2x
Intel Xeon GOLD 6142 16-Core 2.6GHz
But it didn't work. But online manual says that it should work.

And i updated the bios to the newest one.

Hmmm  Xeon Gold 6xxx in an entry level Poweredge Server? I have my doubt and will check OSC.

Ok.. the good news is that various Gold 6x are listet. The bad news is that these are all 62xx ones and not 61xx.

Regards,
Joerg

Hi @Shiroking,

The Dell PE R440 server does not support Intel Xeon GOLD 6142.

While the PE R440 servers do support 61xx models, but they are limited to certain models. Please refer to the below Dell Technical guide (page 18) for more information on supported processors for PE R440.

I have been miss-lead greatly here and Dell doesn't make this easy aye?

When I entered into support.dell.com and entered my service tag number, under "processor upgrades" which I would have expected Dell have already sorted this out and presented me with ONLY COMPATIBLE processors.

The CPU Intel Xeon Gold 6248 2.5GHz Twenty Core Processor, 20C/40T, 10.4GT/s, 27.5M Cache, Turbo, HT (150W) DDR4-2933 is presented to me as a vaiable option to upgrade.

Next of all, I went to Technical Documentation for Dell R440

https://i.dell.com/sites/csdocuments/shared-content_data-sheets_documents/en/poweredge-r440-technical-guide.pdf

On the Page 19, I have confirmed that Xeon Gold 6248 is listed.

Then I extracted Xeon Gold 6248 and tried to use it with the Server Dell R440 ...

I get an Error UEFI0384

Processor TDP higher than the system power limit

I am trying to find how can I make this work. I upgraded the BIOS to

2.21.1

No Difference did this make...

Can anyone confirm if this CPU is supported and if it is not supported.. can anyone tell me why is this listed as supported in Technical Sheet and available to me to chose from when I try to upgrade straight from Dell upgrade website?

Can you confirm if 6248 is supported then ?

@ipsonuser Well welll looks like dell made a big mistake... they do infact state its compatible on the datasheet...  version 62xx where other places do state only golf 61xx models available.. if it really does not work.. they will have big issues with customers soon when they start to upgrade their cpus..

we did buy one unit this week and we have ordered 2 xeon gold 6252 which they do state on the PDF as supported 24 core cpu..  so all BIOS, IDRAC.. etc..has been updated to latest firmware version available.. finger crossed .. to see if it works.. because we have paid big bucks on this Xeon Gold 6252 models.. which are stated as supported cpu list in the PDF from dell.
