I am looking to upgrade my 2 processers in my r610 and I currently have 2 e5520s and I am looking to get something stronger can anyone recommend what the max proc is that I can put in. Without having to upgrade my heatsink or any other upgrades. Not sure what type of heatsink I have if anyone has advice on how to find out, or what it will support just let me know thanks.
I want to upgrade my R610 to the x5675. I have to two 510w psu and I think mine is a gen II unit. Can I use the current heat sinks in my unit? Currently it's running two E5604,s... My bios and idrac are latest release.
What type of heatsinks are required for an upgrade to 130W? Is there a list of which heatsink is recommended in the R610 using the different power outputs?
I have the E5607 - 80W and want to upgrade to the X5675 - 95W or X5690 - 130W. Just wasn't sure what my options would be since it's a different wattage. I have dual 717W power supplies if that makes any difference.

I know I'm replying to an old post, but it'll maybe help others out there with the same question: Xeon X5675 is the best cpu for your gen1 mobo. According to http://store.flagshiptech.com/dell-poweredge-r610-system-boards-motherboards/ Generation I system boards (motherboards) support Intel Xeon 5500/5600 series dual and quad-core processors up to 95W. They will NOT work with any of the quad or six-core 130W CPUs in the Intel Xeon X5600 series. Part numbers for generation I system boards include J352H, 86HF8, 3YWXK and XDN97. Generation II system boards added support for Intel Xeon X5600 series 130W processors. A G1TJH heatsink is required when installing 130W processors to ensure proper heat dissipation. If the front of your PowerEdge R610 has a Roman numeral "II", it likely has a generation II system board. Part numbers for generation II system boards include F0XJ6 and TTXFN.
I'm trying to upgrade a R610 to the 5687 130W CPU's and it isn't working despite meeting (I thought) all of the prerequisites. I'm using the TTXFN system board that is supposed to be Generation 2 board. I upgraded to the copper 130 Watt heatsinks, and I upgraded the idrac to 2.91.02, BIOS to latest 6.6.0.
Still when I try to boot the system I get "This CPU power rating is not supported" and the system halts.
Are you using the 717 watt power supplies? I noticed when I tried to add a second PCIe card to the system with the 500 watt supplies the system went into "degraded performance mode", even though the system was only drawing 160-200 watts at most and the add-on card wasn't using any power from the PCIe slot anyways. It seems it was a limitation imposed by firmware. If you haven't tried the upgraded power supplies, give that a try. Otherwise, what is your power draw currently? How many hard drives do you have installed? what other add-ons are you using?
I'm about to try upgrading my system to a 130w CPU so I'm interested to know if this works and if not what the cause of your problem might be.
I know that some time passed, but did you been able to upgrade a CPU. I'm currently facing the problem with 130W CPUs on my TTXFN motherboard. I'm using 717W PS and 130W heatsinks. Bios, idrac, LC are updated but still the system cannot run. Is there something else than motherboard version that determine generation I and II ?
