Does the 600SC 533Mhz bus support Hyper Threading with the 3.06 Ghz processor?

I apologize for the delayed response. The answer is yes, on the PowerEdge 600 SC, 533MHz FSB motherboard, any processor over 3.06 GHz will support Hyper-Threading.

Now I'm curious (didn't realize I could do this!).

IF I've got a 600SC with the 533Mhz FSB, and a1.8 celeron processor - am I to understand that I can pop that chip out and put in a 2.4ghz processor or similiar?

If y ou are sure that you have 533 FSB, then yes you just pop off the chip and slap the new one in. If you have 400 FSB, you can still put in a 2.6 Ghz 400 Mhz FSB CPU.

Not trying to be persnickity but I need clarification. From you statement below, it says that processors 3.06 support HT. I think we all know that. But... Will the 600SC support the HT processes?  And would any P4 processor with HT be also have 600SC HT support?

 

And one more thing... According to Intel. The HT version of the P4 is a 3.00 ghz. There doesn't seem to be a 3.06ghz HT. I have a Dell notebook in transit (as I type) that is supposed to be a 3.06 HT. Since that doesn't exist (again, according to Intel's data specs). I'm a little worried that I may not have an HT processor when it arrives. Can you check order# 494741821?

The later PowerEdge 600 SC's with the 533MHz FSB and the 3.06 processor will support Hyper-Threading.

I found this document on the Intel website which mentions which processors will support Hyper-Threading:

Actually I've just bought a 600SC P4 2.4GHz.
I had a 400SC same CPU (all info in /proc/cpuinfo match, same kernel 2.4.26, SMP enabled in both).

400SC can use HT, 600SC can't.

Is there anything I can do (eg. update BIOS??) to enable HT on 600SC too?

What is the latest bios A08 upgrade doing?
Does the 600SC support any 800fsb processors?
Is the P4 3,06ghz HT 533mhz fsb the fastest cpu in this system?
It seem like this cpu is out of sale... Can I put in a 800fsb 3,06 HT ?

600SC came with latest BIOS, I checked at end of April, now the box is running as a server I'm not in the "mood" to reboot just to check but it should be a08.

I've no idea of what CPU are supported by the 600SC but surely the problem is not the CPU (exactly same model in 400SC that is running happily in HT mode), neither in the chipset cos I checked on the website of the chipset producer (ServerWorks??, I can't remember now, but I checked) and they claim the installed chipset should support HT.

So it would be nice Dell will provide another BIOS update.

The latest System BIOS for the PowerEdge 600 SC added support for the latest processor steppings, but did not add any new processor speeds. There were a few other cosmetic issues fixed.

The PowerEdge 600 SC does not support any 800MHz FSB processors. The 3.06GHz, 533MHz FSB processor is the fastest available for this system as well as the only one which supports Hyper-Threading.

Curious. As I said ServerWorks claims that the chipset installed on the 600SC supports HT.

I've a 400SC with exactly same processor installed on 600SC (model, stepping, clock etc...).

I installed the same SMP kernel version on both.

400SC support HT, 600SC doesn't.

It seems that the only missing thing to make the 600SC support HT is a BIOS update.

What a pity!

I think 600SC is coming to the end of its career and will be replaced by 700. When 600SC came out HT was not that popular.

Here in Italy 600SC and 400SC had the same price. I thought 600SC was just a bit noisier and with more space for extra HDs, so I bought that inspite of another 400SC.

Maybe Dell is not too much interested in tweaking with the BIOS on a product that actually works but is coming out of production.

I'm not that sure the differences in mobo could be significant. Chipset, CPU and BIOS should make the difference in HT support. It would be nice at least to have a definitive answer from Dell, no matter if it is a negative one, so I could just forget about the issue. After all the box is doing its job.

Next time I'll take more care in choosing from Dell catalogue. More space for HD was needed, but missing HT support is a bit of pain. I didn't need SATA but 700 would have been a sweeter choice for few extra buck if I knew this problem.

I know that it does not have 800mhz fsb but isn´t the Intel 3,06 800fsb backwordcompatible?
You can put it in but the bus is just working in 533fsb ? As it seem like the 3,06 cpu with 533fsp
is out of fabrication and I haven´t found it at any reseller....

There is an Intel 3,06 1MB cache 800FSB cpu, can I put this in and run it at 533FSB ??
According to Intel it can be run on 533FSB Intel chipset...
