iDRAC7 java failure

I have an M1000e chassis with PE-M620's. I've loaded the latest firmware updates and am unable to load the virtual console. iDRAC is running 1.57.57 and LifeCycle is on 1.4.2.12. I can see it in the preview window but Java crashes shortly after I attempt to launch it. I get the same results with IE, Chrome & FF. Java version is 7.6. Below is the error listed in the Java log. I've lowered the security on Java to medium and added exceptions for the chassis and blades in the Java CP.

Java Web Start 10.60.2.19
Using JRE version 1.7.0_60-b19 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM

Missing Application-Name manifest attribute for: https://XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:443/software/avctKVM.jar

KVM/VM Client Version: 5.01.01 (Build 22)

I'd appreciate any hints. I've run out of options.

-Cheers

Hello

Did you follow all of the steps in the Java guide for this issue with update 60?

https://www.java.com/en/download/help/java_blocked.xml

Did you follow the steps outlined in the iDRAC firmware release notes?

* For the Virtual Console and Virtual Media to function properly, iDRAC7 Web URL must be added to the Local Intranet site list and the security level for the Local Intranet zone should be set to Medium-Low. In addition, if Virtual Console and Virtual Media are configured to use Java plug-in, disable the Enhanced Security Mode in Internet Explorer. If this is not possible, then in iDRAC7, configure Virtual Console to use the ActiveX plug-in.

What is the URL that you entered into the exception list? The iDRAC will use more than one port for communication, so don't specify the port in the address list. Use something like https://1.1.1.1

Thanks

Thanks Daniel, I've tried the above with no success. Most of it was done before I made this post. I have Java logging enabled and it seems to crash when this entry appears: JNLPClassLoader: Finding library VMAPI_DLL.dll. FTR-I have two other team members that are able to launch the virtual console so I'm pretty positive the issue is on my laptop. I just can't isolate it.

If the issue is specific to this one laptop then it is not a problem with the iDRAC. Since this is happening across several browsers on the laptop then I would look at troubleshooting what they have in common. They are all using Java, but in the steps outlined above it states to try setting the iDRAC to use native and open the console with Internet Explorer. If you performed the above steps as outlined then you have ruled out Java as the issue since it would still be occurring with activex.

If that is the case then the problem lies somewhere beyond the browser, Java, activex, and the iDRAC. You should probably run virus scans and system file checks on your laptop to try to find any issues.

Thanks

I've had the same problem since last year:

JNLPClassLoader: Finding Library VMAPI_DLL.dll

Popup comes up "Connecting to Virtual Console server" but never gets past that.

Found a solution?

+1 on this issue. I have looked everywhere for a solution on this. Neither the ActiveX or Java viewer work to bring up the console. Have tried 3 different browsers and messed around with different versions of Java and security settings. The older iDRAC 6 implementation works without fault, this is only an issue accessing iDRAC 7. I know the iDRAC is working as a colleague can access the console. Short of reinstalling a fresh copy of the OS, I am out of options here.

Whilst I accept that this does mean there is no fault with the iDRAC itself and the issue lies with my machine, there are enough people having the exact same problem for this to be an issue which needs time from Dell to help resolve and post a true fix/workaround.

Just to update anyone else who may come across this forum, I have found that installing Java 8 for me has resolved this particular issue.
