Poweredge 840 RAID Issue, Please Help!

Hey I am helping a friend with their business server that went down.  Originally it would boot up and see no boot device.  We replaced the RAID card and now it says RAID status degraded.  Where do I go from here?  It should be a mirror RAID.  I believe one of the 2 drives may be failing, how do I determine which one, and then how do I replace it and rebuild the RAID to get it going again?

Thanks!

Dell GU186 E2K-UCS-51 (B) PWB HD279 UL94V-0 PCI-e Poweredge Raid Adapter Card

This is the card.  Have not tried booting with only one drive.  Would I still boot through the raid card if trying on drive at a time?

Hi,

Does it boot to the OS off the one drive? Which raid controller is in the system? You can create bootable media with this utility to create a diagnostics disc to test the drives. http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=Y6D93&fileId=2731107576&osCode=WNET&productCode=poweredge-840&languageCode=en&categoryId=DI

This is the card:

Dell GU186 E2K-UCS-51 (B) PWB HD279 UL94V-0 PCI-e Poweredge Raid Adapter Card

To try and boot off a single drive would I still run it through the RAID card or plug it directly into motherboard?

Thanks!

Plug the drive into port 0 on the card and see if it boots. If it does plug the other drive into port 1.

Now it's saying RAID status FAILED. When I go into the properties, it does not see one of the drives at all, and the other one says "not synced". When I replaced the missing one with a blank one they both say "not synced" and I do not want to chance "syncing them" and it over writing the one that should still have everything on it.

Try just having the one drive that works connected and seeing if that will boot. You are correct that if you sync them it will lose data.
