PowerEdge R340 RAM Upgrade - Critical Memory Initialization Error
Hello,
I would like to upgrade the memory in my PowerEdge R340 from 16 GB to 32 GB. I have read in the Installation and Service Manual that I should use the memory banks A1 and A2. But when I install the two memory modules here, a critical memory error pops up at the next boot:
"An error was detected during memory initialization. Verify the DIMMs are properly seated and that they are installed in the correct sockets".
As I have already described, I have installed the modules on the A1 and A2 slots, as it is stated in the manual. I also made sure that the DIMMs are firmly installed.
The memory modules used are the following:
- Module 1:
- 16 GB 2Rx8 PC4-2666V-EE1-11
- Unbuffered ECC DIMM
- Product no.: SK hynix HMA82GU7DJR8N-VK
- Module 2:
- 16 GB 2Rx8 PC4-2666V-EE1-12
- Unbuffered ECC-DIMM
- Product no.: Kingston KSM26ED8/16HD
I have already installed the two modules individually (on A1). They are correctly recognized as 16 GB ECC memory with 2666 MHz.
As a test, I also installed the two modules again on A1 and A3. Here they were recognized as 32 GB, but only run with 2400 MHz.
I hope someone here had the problem before and could fix it accordingly or maybe the support can help me here.
If you need more information about my system just ask.
Best Regards,

The BIOS is already on the latest version (2.10.1).
Is there any way to check if it is a faulty A2 socket?

Hello,
that is strange because memory banks details seems ok for this server. Of course we cannot officially support it because they are not bought by Dell.
It could be also an issue in the A2 socket in the motherboard.
Did you tried to update BIOS?
Thanks

Unfortunately not, only A1 is available to populate alone, to test a single dimm bank
