Processor upgrade for R510
I have a PowerEdge R510 and would like to buy a second processor (Xeon E5620). I found several sites selling "Dell Intel Xeon E5620" processors, with Mfg Part Nr. 317-5043. I also found a lot of Intel Xeon E5620 processors, with Intel Part Nr., much cheaper. So I would like to know if I need to buy a "specific" Dell processor?
Thank you for your help.

Psilva,
The second part number you provided didn't show. Likely the difference in the processor models is that one is a Box version and then other a Tray. The difference being that the Box version normally includes a heatsink with the processor, and the other part is the processor alone. Keep in mind that a processor ordered with a heatsink that isn't by the manufacturer may not fit in the server. If you provide me with the part number I can confirm that for you. As I see it there isn't an alternative model to the E5620, so it should be just a matter of differences of what is included with the processor. Which can also be a matter of warranty coverage and duration as well.
Let me know.

Chris H,
The part number I got is SLBV4 AT80614005073AB, which I know is the tray version. My big question is about the compatibility. I am also not sure that the Dell Product 317-5043 includes the heatsink.
Thank you for you help

The 317-5043 appears to also be a tray. As far as compatibility, they look to be the same processors.
