R6515 stuck at "Please wait while system is initializing" when LRDIMM is present
Hello!
I want to perform a memory upgrade on my R6515 server.
Currently the server has 16x32GB DDR4-2400 RDIMM
I bought 16x64GB DDR4-2400 LRDIMM. After the memory upgrade the server only contained these LRDIMM memory modules and nothing was mixed. They were the same brand, speed, type and so just like before.
The issue I'm having is that when trying to boot the server with the new memory it doesn't get past the "Please wait while system is initializing". It's stuck there forever with no obvious errors.
I've tried to pull out the pcie u.2 disks. Try booting with one power supply instead of two. Tried clearing the CMOS but nothing seemed to have solved the issue. If I remove the new ram and put the old ram back in again the system boots fine. It's not clear to me why it's not working because in the specifications the Poweredge R6515 supports both LRDIMM and RDIMM

Hi
On that page it says Dell Part AA783423. If I buy 16 of these sticks it should work fine with the R6515 right? I'm also wondering if all the sticks can run at 3200MHz even with all memory slots populated.

SDeltaE,
That is the correct dimm, as you can see the part number I provided embedded under the Manufacturer Part number. To answer your question it doesn't appear that it would run at 3200 when fully populated, it looks to run at 2933 when more than 2 dimms per channel are installed, as seen on page 48 here.

Hello could you try booting with just ONE LRDIMM? And see what the lifecycle controller event looks like in Idrac?

There is nothing interesting in the lifecycle controller event ."System is turning on. System is turning off. System CPU Resetting." No mention of the ram or anything else.
When checking hardware inventory in IDRAC while it's in its infinite "Please wait while system is initializing" it still says that the old memory is there. 32GB sticks.

The memory I bought is Quad Rank x4
Could you look at the image I attached of the physical memory modules? I bought one of those memory upgrade kits from a seller. You can see in the image the module number HMAA8GL7MMR4N-UH and that they're quad-ranked (4Rx4),

SDeltaE,
I believe the issue you are seeing is due to the dimms not being supported on the R6515. While there are multiple 64GB dimms available for the R6515, none of them are quad ranked, they are all 2Rx4. Furthermore, the only LRDimm I see listed for the system is 128GB.
Let me know if this helps.

I understand, as I was basing this on the images of the dimms, that there is not a supported dimm that is both 4rx4 and 64gb, as well as that the only LRDIMM supported is a 128GB dimm. So those dimms are not supported.

I'm checking with my local vendor. They have DELL M393A8K40B22-CWD6Q - 64GB 2S2Rx4 PC4-21300V DDR4-2666MHz
Is this supported by the R6515. It ticks all the boxes
It's RDIMM
It's 64GB
It's 2666MHz

Hello
I understand. So only 128GB LRDIMM sticks are supported. 64GB LRDIMM sticks do not work. For this RDIMM is required? I was extra careful to buy the "DELL HMAA8GL7MMR4N-UH - 64GB 4Rx4" sticks because I wanted to be sure it worked
Could you please link me to where I can buy a memory upgrade kit that's 16x64GB that's supported on the R6515?

I don't believe it is. I checked on the dimms, and to clarify i was previously incorrect when I said there were several 64gb dimms, most of them are for different regions. That being said there is only a single 64gb dimm listed under the R6515 for your region, being part # P2MYX, found here.

Hi, I got the same issue as you. The server R6515 came with one memory "32GB 2Rx8 PC4 - 3200AA-RE2-14".
What should I do so that the server can boot up?
