Would you clarify if you are seeing an errors on the server, specifically regarding the CPU2? It sounds like the issue may be with the CPU2 slot on the motherboard. As the memory can't be installed on the bank at all as you stated.
Also would you clarify if the server is update to date on BIOS, iDrac, as well as raid controller.
There is nothing too specific about the CPU itself. Just that the DIMMS are disabled. CPU2 is visible in the BIOS. That said, I've attempted to run with a full A bank of ram sticks (9x8G) and CPU1 + CPU2 (without any RAM) but the system crashed with an I/O error.
I was pretty sure that running two CPUs with one without any RAM is not super recommended. I've removed CPU2 and everything appear stable.
It really might just be a bad board but I was looking for a way to be sure.
