As you have all DIMM on each server is same you can replace only failed DIMM with new one. I assume new one also have of same size and speed of DIMM which is getting replaced.

You need to ensure size of the new memory matches with the memory on same slot for 2nd CPU. You can refer section "System Memory" on page 98 of below link for more details on memory configuration for T710

I have already seen those documents and they are not very clear as to whether a. do i have to replace in pairs and if so which other memory chip also need to be replaced with it. b. can i just replace the single memory chip in slot B6

You need to change only failed memory module If you are replacing with a supported module of same type, size and speed. Can you let me know which all memory slot have memory populated with size and model of each memory modules.

 are all 8 GB and all slots except A9, B9 are populated and on the other T710 A2,A3 A5,A6 and B2,B3 B5,B6 are populated. What is weird is on both servers B6 Failed

t to mention on the second server they are only 4GB sticks all memory are dual channel
