Upgrading R710 Server CPUs
I'm trying to upgrade an R710. I've got multiple but one actually has a more recent version of windows and sql server so trying to combine everything on to that one. Of course I figured out it's the oldest one (August 2009). So pretty sure it's probably a Gen1 (didn't check when I was there and it's a fair drive away).
Currently it has:
E5520 Processor (2.27ghz)
48 gigs of ram.
I need to upgrade it as I moved some from another server (which is another R710 with 32 G of ram, but has 2 X5650s already).
I shut down the gen1 and split the memory, replaced the 5520 with two X5650s. But it wouldn't boot until i went back to the original cpu. So I'm guessing the 5650 is unsupported. Any easy way to confirm this is the issue? I'd add power and the power button and drives would blink, then go off, then a few seconds later go on and off again (and keep repeating). So I rolled back the CPU and memory and all started (had tried with one of the new cpus and it had the same issue)
Ideally my server with the 2 5650s is the one I'd combine to, but that is a ton of work with live services (it had old windows, old sql server etc). So why I had hoped to simply update the older server.
1. Confirm that the X5650 on the older gen 710 won't work, and possibly going with as good of a processor as I can fit (and getting two of course), maybe the X5570? or something else.
2. Seeing if there is any way to either backup the current server and restore it on to the 5650 one (using something like macrium reflect). I could add memory to the 5650 one and upgrade it's drives easy.
Anyone know on the X5650 on the older server? seems like it's the issue but just trying to get confirmation. and if so figure out if it's worth trying the 5570 instead.

Also you will need to update the BIOS/idrac firmware as well.
