Hello, the module will restart, not the chassis. But it is advisable to have downtime when doing any firmware updates.

Hello I’m afraid your CMC seem to be not quite right from what I see. Hence, I can’t really tell whether the update would be successful or cause an issue.

After chatting with Dell support, I need to update the cmc firmware.  I have two cmc's, active and standby.

They advised to update the standby first.

Just wanted to verify, or second opinion, that updating cmc firmware will not shut down or cause issues with my server?

After I update the standby cmc firmware, will the updated cmc become the active cmc so the other cmc can be updated?  How long should I wait until updating the second cmc?

Thanks for your help!

CncSparky,

I assumed based on your posting that you have dual CMC's, if that indeed is the case then you shouldn't expedrience a reboot, as the update should just cause it to fail over to the other CMC. So basically you run the update, it applies said update (which needs a restart), when it shuts down to restart it switches to the running "standby" CMC, which then becomes the active.

If I understand correctly, the CMC module is what is restarting, not the entire server, correct?

By installing the latest CMC firmware, I will not run into incompatibility issues with other parts of the server, correct?

Thanks!
