Adding Drives to PowerEdge 2600
I have a PE 2600 with 4X18GB drives, with one slot open. I would like to fill this open HDD bay, with a 146GB drive. Here is the system specs. It’s a 2.4G Intel, with 3.0G memory, controller is a PREC 3/di, and it is a RAID 5 config. The 18GB drives are bolded below. Other questions are. If I add a 146GB that is a 10K, is that going to affect any other drive, or performance, or is the drive going to operate separate from the other 18GB drives

Hi,
This is the Customer Kit for the 146Gb hard drive for the PowerEdge 2600. This kit includes the Hard Drive Carrier and mounting screws.
340-7915, 146GB,U320,SCSI,1IN 10K
This drive will operate separately of your existing Raid 5 and should not affect the performance of that array.
Dell spare parts can be reached by phone at 1-800-357-3355.

Hi,
Yes, you "can" add the new drive to the existing array, but only 18Gb of it will be usable. All drives in a raid 5 array should be the same size, any "extra" space is wasted.

Then can you supply me with the correct part number for the 18GB drives. I would like for the drive to be part of the RAID.
