Adding HDs to PE2500SC - First timer questions

Our server crashed this week and the registry is now corrupt, so I will be reinstalling the OS (NT 4.0 SP6a), then upgrading to 2000, and then restoring data from backup.  While I'm at it, we are running out of disk space, so I want to add some more HDs.

Our current setup is a PE2500SC (ST 1FLD011) with 2-36GB U160 10K configured as RAID 1 with 2 containers (0-4GB, 1-29GB).  I would like to add 2 more 36GB.  Being somewhat of a newbie when it comes to working with RAID and arrays, I have a few questions:

What would be the best way to approach this situation?  Should I re-install NT, then upgrade to 2000 and then add in the additional drives, or should I add in the new drives and then re-install?

Will I be able to add the drives into the system without having to reformat?   What will happen once the drives are incorporated?  Do they expand the current space on the 2 partitions I already have, or do they become new partitions?

Thank you in advance for any help and answers.

Hi Zellin,

I would add the drives first, rebuild your raid configuration and then install the OS. Since you have to reload the OS, this is the cleanest method. If you did not have to restore, I would replace the drives with bigger ones, one by one. Once they are all replaced, you can run extpart.exe to extend the partition.
