Adding new drives to H710 RAID 10 array

The article you provided is how you would extend a simple Virtual Disk (Raid1,5, or 6), unfortunately spanned virtual disks such as RAID 10, 50, and 60's cannot be extended or reconfigured. So you would need to backup the current data, then delete and recreate the virtual disk with the addition drives, then reinstall OS and restore from backup.

Only to be sure. It is also not possible to create a second vdisk raid10 on the free space of the pdisks of the first vdisk raid10?

I hope anybody responses on this old item.

We can create multiple virtual disk from same disk group provided there are free space available on the disks and new virtual disk is same layout as existing virtual disk. New virtual disk will be created using all disks which are part of existing virtual disk and there is no option to use subset of disks to create another virtual disk.  In your case you can create more RAID 10 using free space available on existing virtual disk drives.

@Stefan von Kaenel , Can you share the server and PERC model you have. Can you also ensure you have latest iDRAC, BIOS and PERC FW installed on the server and try the operation.

I was thinking the same thing. But I am getting errors.

I have tried with the Dell OpenManage Server Administrator, omconfig and after reboot with iDrag. All give the error: "Create virtual disk failed". But I cannot find more information.

The vdisk and the pdisk are fine. The only thing is that the pdisks are not dell brands. So there are warnings but this should not affect it.

When I was replacing all the old hard disks with new onces the physical disks belonging to the span have changed. Are there any restrictions about that? ex. span 0 has physical disks 0:1:3 and 0:1:7

The lsi*.log has a "Unexpected sense" on Encl PD20 but the consistency check went well.

How can I figure out why I get errors?

We have a Dell PowerEdge T320 with Windows 2019 Server.

I regularly download and run the latest SUUlauncher. So I expect having the latest drivers.

BIOS: 2.9.0
iDRAC Firmware: 2.65.65.65
PERC H710 Adapter Controller 0 Firmware: 21.3.5-0002

i can see that idrac perc has feature to reconfigure the raid model.

there is an option in virtual disk raid 10 to expand add more disk and choose option reconfigure.

but when i tried, the progress stuck 0% reconfiguration .. any idea?

Hi, looks like you're running Online Capacity Expansion (OCE) . Please see here. https://dell.to/3pJCnyi It looks like what you are asking is possible. But you need to do it on OMSA not on Idrac.

reconfigure also support from idrac9 according to your tutorial.

how about reconfigure from CLI perc? possible?

• In OMSA (Openmanage Server Administrator), System > Storage > PERC > Virtual Disk > select Reconfigure in the dropdown menu.
