Controller replacement question - H730p swap to H730 without losing the array

I have a question I haven't been able to find an answer to - My current server is using a Dell PERC H730p. I purchased an H730 (non P) to use for a backup array, which would actually be populated using my current production array.

As long as both cards have the same firmware revision, should I be able to do the following without losing my array?

  • Install the H730 (non p) with a clear config
  • Pull the H730p
  • Plug the cables from the H730p to the H730 (non p)
  • Import the foreign config

My goal is to build a new array on the H730p that I'll then replicate all my current data to, and then I can do a daily sync back to the H730.

Before you ask, I did this because I was able to get a massive deal on an H730 and I don't need the extra cache on a backup system.

Hello, thanks for choosing Dell.

As long as both cards have the same firmware revision, should I be able to do the following without losing my array? ->  replacement should be possible  I think but in any cases we HIGHLY RECOMMEND back up before you do anything. Back up is a must, please note.

Wish you a good one.
