Hi, Should have said that I have already initialised the drives! Before that, the array showed a status of degraded, but everything looks fine now. I should also have mentioned the version of Openmanage is 3.1.3
Sounds like the old array grabbed a chunk of one of the new drives to rebuild your degraded array. Look to see which drive got grabbed, get a replacement for the failed drive, and set the replacement as the hot spare then prepare to remove, and remove the new drive that got used to rebuild the failed array. The replacement should then be used to rebuild the array, and you can proceed with making the new RAID 5 on the 3 new drives.
I can't see anything being used on any of my 3 new drives, the last thing I've done was to initialise them anyway, wouldn't this have affected any array they were part of?
What are my options now? Can I reboot and use the BIOS on the Perc 2 to create the new array, and what are the risks involved with regard the existing RAID5 set?
You should call in to talk to the server support technicians, this forum realy is not suited for troubleshoting. With the original array being previously degraded when you installed the new drives, I'd sure want to have a tech work with you of this issue.
