Dell PERC H730 Mini
Hi All, I want to extend my Dell PowerEdge R730xd with four PCIe SSD drives in a RAID 0 configuration. Currently the server is installed with two PCIe SSD's in RAID 0. The PERC H730 Mini support up to 32 storage drives. Does this also includes PCIe SSD's?

It looks like there are a max of four PCIe SSDs supported in the R730XD. If you have a PCIe SSD backplane slots 20-23 can be used for PCIe SSDs. This is a backplane limitation not a controller limitation. You may be able to find more information in the system manual.

The R730xd is indeed installed with a PCIe SSD Extender and four slots (20-23) are available for PCIe SSD.
However, I need to make sure that a RAID 0 config is possible on the four PCIe SSD's.
Am I right that the PCIe SSD Extender manage the RAID set on the PCIe SSD's?
And does this PCIe SSD Extender support RAID 0 on four SSD's?
Unfortunately, the PCIe SSD drives cost a lot and it is not possible to return the drives if it is not compatible.

Slots 20-23 are auto-detecting. If a SAS or SATA drive is detected then the backplane routes to the PERC. If a PCIe SSD is detected then it routes the drive to the PCIe controller. I'm fairly certain the PCIe controller is just a pass-through controller with no RAID capabilities. You would need to use some form of software RAID within the OS if you want the drives in a RAID 0.
The manual for the PCIe controller should be called "Dell PowerEdge Express Flash NVMe PCIe SSD Adapter".
