Dell PowerEdge T110 server (Adding Physical Disk new)

Hello Group Dell support,

- I have 1 Dell PowerEdge T110 server, using Domain controller (AD) and File server and have 2 HDD Sata 500Gb raid 1.

- There is a need to increase file server processing speed for users and expand the HDD capacity. Because User processes files very slowly and has limited capacity.

- I have 2 directions to upgrade this server:

1. Add 1 array 2 for 2 HDD 2TB sata and add 10Gbp network card.

2. Add 1 array 2 for 2 Hdd SSD 960GB and add 1 10Gbp network card.

- Ask the Dell Support Team for advice. Thanks verry much.

I currently use: PowerEdge T110 Server using PERC S100

2 x 500Gb SATA WD HDD's configured for RAID 1.

Windows Server 2008 R2, 64bit.

Upgrade HDD: As the 2 options above.

Coffeemorning,

Another option to consider is an Online Capacity Expansion which you can read about on page 24 here
As far as the network card, I am not seeing a supported 10g card for the T110.

Hope this helps.

Hi Chris Hawk,

The T110 can combine 1 array 2 hdd sata 500GB and 1 array 2 ssd 960Gb? Because I haven't done it yet, I'm really afraid of the current array 1 error.

Thanks,

Hi,

I'm unsure what you would mean by combining, as in all 4 drives (2 SATA + 2 SSD) in an array? Or you're just to add an additional separated array e.g. VD1? If you're to combine hard disk with SSD as an array, that is not possible.

Base on S100 manual, it is able to support SSD. There are some SSD firmware listed on T110 support page, you can refer to the page for guidance on which SSD models are compatible with T110

Let me know if it helps.

Hi Joey Chong,

I think, I will create 2 different arrays. 1 array is 2 hdd sata 500gb as available. And will add a second array 2 hdd ssd 960gb.

Not in all 4 drives (2 SATA + 2 SSD) in 1 array.

Thanks Joey Chong,

Hi,

I believe that is possible. You may need to cross reference the support page, and check the compatible SSD are available here.
