Dell R550 Issues.

I'm currently setting up 3 R550 on my test network.  2 of the servers are operating normally, however I'm having issues with the 3rd Dell R550.  When I attach a external Hard Drive to the front USB the system for a One time USB boot, the system will lock up.  I was able to install a ISO Server 2019 using the back USB port.  When the installation is complete I detached the external drive.  When I plugged in a new external drive, the drive doesn't show up.  I looked at the device manager and it wasn't showing there either.   I also removed one of the internal drives, placed it back in, and that didn't show up either.   Could this be a firmware issue? Also is there a way to factory reset the server?

User_2a3f3d,

We will need some aditional information to see what is causing it., but I would start with verifying the differences in the 2 working servers from this one. I would also highly recommend that you verify the server is up to date on BIOS, iDrac, Raid controller, etc.. Would you confirm the part number of the drive, as well as the specific OS version you're installing?
Lastly, are you seeing any errors or amber lights during any of the process?

Let me know and we can go from there.

@DELL-Chris H

The only main difference is that the 2 working servers came with a 2.5 inch hybrid drive. The 3rd server came with 2 solid state drives.  All 3 have Windows Server 2019 installed on them. There were no errors or amber lights on during any of the processes.

All the servers are part of a test network and don't connect to the internet.  So I have to do all the updates manually.  Attaching a external hard drive with updates won't work.  Can you attach a labtop using the iDRAC to update the Bios and Raid controller? I'm not too familiar with using iDRAC.

You can connect the laptop to the USB via the micro USB port, or another option would be to configure the iDrac an ip, or use the default (192.168.0.120), to connect to the iDrac over the network and access it that way.

Also, from what I see the drives do show as supported, but you may want to consider updating them as well.
