Dell R710 HDD Error

I have a Dell Power Edge R710 Server with RAID 1 configured. I have 4 SATA HDDs, HDD 1 indicates an orange and green light, and HDD 1 is in an error state on the boot screen. I want to replace the HDD, but did I replace it with the same part number? Is there any data loss after replacement?WhatsApp Image 2023-01-20 at 11.50.03 AM.jpeg

HDD 0 ---> 1TB
HDD 1 ---> 1TB
HDD 2 ---> 2TB
HDD 3 ---> 2TB

If HDD 1 is part of RAID 1 which you mentioned, you can replace the drive without data lost.

You need to have drive from same family(SAS or SATA) and type (HDD or SSD) for replacement. Replaced drive need to have same or more size than current drive

To replace the drive first you need to make the drive offline, then replace the drive. Once drive is replaced rebuild will start. Once rebuild is start virtual disk become ready. You can refer below link for more details

It is good practice and recommended to backup your data before carrying out any such maintenance tasks to handle any unforeseen behavior.

If it is RAID 0 then there is no redundancy and you can not replace the drive directly as I mentioned in my post. You need to take a backup of the data, delete the virtual disk, re create the virtual disk with new drive and copy the backed up data back.
