Dell R720 configuration disk
Physical disks are now used HHD SAS Form factor 3.5 inch.I would like to add some SSD disks in the PowerEdge R720. Can we share our raid of 4 HDD drives with 2 SSD SATA RAID1 drives?

Hello
Most of our storage controllers allow mixing of drive types as long as they are in different virtual disks. You can review the manual of the storage controller that you are using to see if it allows this type of drive mixing.

The manual may also be listed on the system support page.

We use a controller H710.Server has citrix hypervisor (xenserver) The instructions describe the NOTE: The combination of SAS and SATA hard drives with a virtual disk is not
supported by Also not supported combination of hard drives and solid-state
drives (SSD) with a virtual disk.
What does this mean? Can we use sas hdd disk with sata ssd? Or is it only necessary to purchase sas ssd?
Thanks.

The H710 supports drive mixing on the controller. You cannot mix drive types within a virtual disk. All drives within a virtual disk must by the same interface type(SAS, SATA) and the same media type(flash, platter). You can do what you are planning on the H710.
