Dell R730 install HDD
Hi, today I've installed a PERC mini 730 into my DELL r730 ,but unfortunately my SAS HDD is 2,5" not 3.5" like it should.
ESX system was installed before on Memory CARD so after install PERC I started system like before.
Now I'm getting adapter or new 3,5" rails within 2 day and my question is.
Do i need power off my server while installing new hard drives ?
ESXI working on memory card at this moment and after adding 2 new HDD I want to configure RAID1 and install system on virtual drive.

Hi @za8ol,
You should need not power off the server to install the new drives, as the backplane for R730 are for hot swappable.
Are you having issues with your 2.5" and PERC H730? You might want to check if you're having a 2.5" or 3.5" backplane, as according to the user guide page 144. https://dell.to/3IyakdV

Suggested action plan:-
1. Capture the Logs.
2. Power off the system.
3. Install new drives, power on the system, create array, fast initialize the VD and start using the server.
Note:- the disk replacements are always hotseat but if you are creating any new VD or raid in the system you need to reboot the system to enter into the Raid BIOS and the best way to see the exact progress.
