Failed foreign config import perc 6/i
Hi All,
I have a perc 6/i with 6 x 2gb drives in raid 5, after a drive failed I managed to get it to rebuild, by replacing the drive and making it a either a global hot swap or a hot swap drive (can't remember exactly).
After the reboot the controller is saying the array has a foreign config, I enter the config utility at boot up by pressing "F" pressed F2 with the controller selected and imported foreign config, but it gave a message saying 2 out of 2 has failed.
The array only has 1 single VD on it, I have read about the retag method to restore the VD, and may try this next, although I built the array long time ago, I used the max space available and pretty sure I left everything else as default.
I have 5 questions:
Can I make disk image to files to back up the drives in the array and restore these to a be valid member of the array if I somehow loose my data? Using ghost or macrium relect etc?
Is it safe to assume that if the array successfully rebuilt the drive that the data is intact?
Is there any other less drastic method than retagging I can try first?
What is the 2 of 2 that failed during the foreign config import, does this mean there are 2 configurations for the 1 array containing 1 VD?
Am I on the right track at least?
Pictures added.
Thanks in advance

Hello
If the virtual disk is online then you should not import foreign configurations. You can go to the Foreign View tab to get more information on foreign configurations. Any disk that is connected to the controller which it does not have a matching record of will be listed as foreign. This includes any disk with readable tags, meta data that defines virtual disk characteristics. Blank disks or disks that have no tags should not be detected as foreign.
You can find more information about foreign configurations in the controller manual.

Hi Daniel,
Thanks for the link, I will check out the manual.
It seems the VD that resides on the 6 x 2 tb drives is fine, the OS for this machine is installed on a VD on 2 500gb drives on the remaining 2 channels. These are the drives with the foreign configuration, I have attached the PD MGMT screen pic.
Does the fact that there is no disk group or anything for these drives in the VD MGMT, mean that I may have lost the OS?
Any help to retrieve the OS would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
