Failing Hard Drive
I have a PowerEdge with a flashing amber light on one of the hard drives. I don t see any error on in the server event logs. The SCSI congroler is PERC 4e/Di RAID Controller and the hard drive is 146GB, SCSI, U320, 10K, 80P, MAXTOR. I already have a replacement drive but I can not find any instructions on how to hot swap it. In reading some of the forum post I see that people are encouraged to run a Diag program first. What would be the correct DIAG program to run?

If you want to run diagnostics then go to the download page for your server and look under the diagnostic section. 32 bit diagnostics will test HDDs.
I would suggest that you install OpenManage Server Administrator and check the drive status through it. The reason many suggest to run diagnostics on drives is because many HDDs are replaced in error. Many system administrators will just replace a HDD that has any form of error status. Most errors on HDDs that are used on our PERCs are logical, and drive replacement is not necessary.

... and so, if the drive tests as healthy, the drive can probably just be rebuilt into the array, but after doing so, it is important to update all system firmware, as those will usually address issues that can result in "failure" of healthy drives.
