Faulty Hard drive

Question

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could tell me if deleting a container wipes the hard drive fo an existing good disk of a mirror.

I had a mirror on my perc 3di & the second disk went missing.

After being unable to revive the disk i deleted the container, added a new 2nd disk, format & verified it & created a new container.

i am now getting error message no boot device available.

If you delete a container and then recreate it, the raid controller may initialize the disk to force the disks to sync up. When this happens, it wipes data.

The easier fix would have been to replace the disk (call Dell support and have them replace the disk (assuming it's under warranty)) and then let the raid rebuild.

Thank you for the response   is there any way to pull the data off the 2nd disk of the mirror? ive only deleted the container & havent recreated another one yet?

Contact Dell support on the phone as this would have to be done 100% correct and I'd be hesitant to provide a walk through without exact details and preferably a view of your raid controller bios (at the kvm).

The machine is a poweredge 2500 with perc 3di

This is a machine that does have a container & actually boots to the os with no problems.

I just need to add a second disk & get the mirror happening.

Ive installed open manage but the storage option does not show any disks.

Is there an article on how to do this in the perc setup?
