Foreign Configuration clear in Dell RAID
Hi
We have Dell Power Edge R420 where it’s configured with RAID 10,So we would like to RAID10,but seems we can’t expand the RAID10 with current controller PERC H710 Mini
Since we have installed 4 new disks ,So we plan to create new RAID ,But we seen 3 disks showing as Foreign disk and one disk shows as Online
So just wanted to check that if I clear Operation Manager, will it cause any data loose with existing disk in RAID10.
Please find the attached document where I m trying to clear Foreign configuration, it’s giving some warning information, so just wanted to check with you correct method to clear Foreign configuration .

Yes. Those are virtual disk which newly inserted drives were previously part of. You can see the virtual disk name shown on preview page will be different than one you already have on the server. You can also click on the virtual disk name on the foreign configuration preview page and confirm the physical disk details.

Now i m cleared Foreign Configuration and created new RAID.

Clearing foreign configuration will only clear the data on the physical disk shown as foreign. You can get more details on this operation from below link.

Hi,
Thanks for information,
When I tried to clear Foreign configuration ,if you look at “Foreign configuration Preview”, it shows Layout as RAID-10 for 2 disks and RAID-5 for one disk for new disks
So which means was these disk used as part of RAID10 and 5 on respective disk earlier ?
Concerns is we have production RAID10 which is made of Physical Disk 0.1.0-0.1.3,so I m just wanted to make sure by clear Foregin configuration should not cause/effect Product RAID10 disk
