full disk encryption with R610
I'm trying to figure out how to enable hardware encryption with self encrypting SAS drives on R610 server. I've enabled TPM in BIOS and was expecting to see Encryption option under RAID wizard inside the Unified Server Configuration. But it's disabled. I'm using two Seagate Savvio SAS drives.
Is there some documentation on how to configure TPM correctly? Thanks,
-Ben

I haven't dealt much with self-encrypting drives, but I believe the harddrive (raid) controller needs to support this as well. Which raid controller do you have?

We are using SAS 6i. Does it support full disk encryption? If not, can you suggest which one does, please. Thanks.

The PERC H700 manual has a section on using encrypted drives. The SAS6i, PERC H200 or even the PERC6 documentation do not mention support for encrypted disks, so I would assume they don't support it.
Also; as you can see in the link, it says the "H700 and H800 cards support encryption of data at the disks when using Dell-qualified Self-Encrypting Disks (SEDs)". So if you got your Seagate Savio drives through Dell as PowerEdge drives, you should be fine once you get an H700. If your drives were purchased elsewhere, you still may not be able to get drive encryption.

We have Seagate Savvio ST9146803SS SAS drives, which according to Seagate datasheet support SED and FIPS SED option. These drives came with the server and have dell stickers on them. The support guy mentioned that there are separate Dell branded drives that are required for full disk encryption. I guess we can try getting just the H700 card installed and see if it will work with our existing disk drives. Thanks,

Ben...
Since you seem to be the first on encrption without "separate Dell drives" , let us know your results.
Thanks
