get 'test WP failed, assume Write Enabled' error on booting Dell 2950 with perc5/i
Hi ,
I recently replaced a perc5/i raid battery on a Dell 2950. While this eliminated the error i was receiving on the display, I noticed that i still get the same errors/warnings reported by the OS (Redhat 5.6) at booting.
I have six discs, each mirrored to create three virtual discs.
On bootup, for each disc, i get the following error/message..

441 sda: test WP failed, assume Write Enabled

445 sda: test WP failed, assume Write Enabled
446 sda: asking for cache data failed
447 sda: assuming drive cache: write through
448 sda: sda1 sda2 sda3 sda4 < sda5 sda6 sda7 >
449 sd 0:2:0:0: Attached scsi disk sda
This repeats itself for sdb and sdc.
Can these warnings be ignored, or, is there a way to fix things. Using Rev 1.00 firmware.

Since you just replaced the battery the PERC 5 controller may still be in the write thru mode. I would start by going to the controller BIOS (Control + R) during server POST. Highlight each virtual disk and hit enter to verify the advanced settings are set to write back. if not you will need tab over and hit enter on advanced settings then tab to write policy and select write back to enable the battery and memory cache on the controller.
